Abstract
Pigmented villonodular synovitis was that of Chassaignac (1852) who described lesions of the nodular form arising in relation to the flexor tendon sheaths of the middle and index fingers. After that time, it was called various names by many scholars. In 1941, Jaffe, Lichtenstein and Sutro introduced the term pigmented villonodular synovitis based on clinical and pathological experience.
We observed 4 knees in 3 patients of pigmented villonodular synovitis which is relatively rare.
